Vegan in Knaresborough – Scarlett’s Vintage Tea Room

Some places you visit instantly give you happy vibes and make you feel at home. That’s kind of how I felt during my recent visit to Knaresborough. This is a lovely cafe with loads of gourmet vegan options – if you call/email in advance the owner will make a completely vegan high tea for you! And not like the standard crisps, margarine and jam one but it is really elaborate. Scarlett put plenty of time in to compose each of the sandwiches and cakes.

An extra plus which is always appreciated by me is that they allow dogs so Louie doesn’t have to wait in the car. I was in heaven when I saw the cakes: we got an Oreo muffin, a scone with vegan margarine and jam & some fresh strawberries, the best lemon sponge topped with blueberries I had ever tasted, homemade flapjack (a bit too buttery for me) and fruit cake which I am usually not to keen on but this blue me away – it did not taste as if you’re eating pure sultanas as I feel it usually does but more like a strawberry version of it super fruity and light. I was amazed by the variety and also by the fact that we did not have to share as it is often the case with high tea there was two bits of each cake and sandwich so no need to share and I promise you don’t want to with this deliciousness!!! 😀

Usually when having high tea, I get crazy excited about the cakes & scones and less about the sandwiches as they are usually quite boring. Scarlett’s however made me change my mind. There is a pesto, pine nut and rocket one, hummus and cucumber, butter and vegan cheese and also a hummus and chutney one. And they come with different varieties of bread as well. Also, she put a cute little vintage cup filled with hummus and peppers on the table which we found very lovely.

Besides the food you could choose from a variety of drinks (see menu below) which are refilled by the lovely waitresses.

The cafe made me feel as if I were visiting my gran. Loads of random bits and bobs that were collected over time and stressed that vintagy feel like dolls drinking champagne, a miniature record player, board games like Domino on each table and great old adverts hanging on the walls.

They don’t have a website but you can contact them here to get in touch and let them know you’re coming and you’re vegan 🙂
